At Yellowstone in 2022, our kayak rack shook loose from the car. One of the straps had worn through and was barely holding on. We noticed it just before hitting a bumpy road, which would have sent kayaks flying. That kind of near miss really makes you APPRECIATE checking the small things. Your friend's bolt situation must have been heart stopping.
