Just ran the numbers on tooling costs for last year

I pulled all my tooling receipts for 2024 last week and totaled it up. Came to $8,430 just for end mills and inserts running a single Haas VF-2. That's way higher than I expected because I always figured the machine paid for itself in 2 years. Anyone else actually track this stuff or do you just write it off as overhead?

Sounds like you bought the machine a second time just in tooling!

Pretty sure my tooling bill now outweighs what I actually paid for the machine. At this rate I could have just bought a second Bridgeport and kept it in the garage as a decoration. The end mill collection alone is starting to rival a small hardware store. I keep telling myself the chips are basically just expensive metal glitter at this point.
