Old machinist at a shop in Dayton showed me why my finish passes looked bad, it was one number I never touched
I was at a job shop in Dayton picking up some work and the guy running the lathe next to mine glanced at my part and asked what my spindle speed was on the finish pass. I told him I ran the same rpm as my roughing pass and he just nodded and said try bumping it up 30 percent and watch the chatter go away, then he walked off before I could ask why. Does anyone here change rpm between rough and finish or am I the only one who ran the same number for years?
