My buddy got let go from his factory job for that exact reason. They said they needed people who could fix the machines, not just run them.

That's the whole shift right there. Companies want one person to do two jobs now but only pay for one. They call it "upskilling" but it's just cutting corners. Your buddy's story is everywhere these days.

My local hardware store did the same thing to their cashiers last month, just like sarahmorgan said.
