Ran the same 500 aluminum brackets with a 3 flute and a 2 flute, the difference was night and day on my spindle
Last week I had a run of 500 small aluminum brackets for a local shop here in Reno and I decided to do half the batch with my old 2 flute carbide and half with a 3 flute I picked up on sale. The 2 flute kept grabbing chips and I had to babysit it on every pass, but the 3 flute threw the chips clean and let me bump the feed way up on my Haas Mini Mill. I finished the 3 flute side in about 40 minutes less and the finish looked way better too. Is the 3 flute really the way to go for aluminum or am I just getting lucky with this one? Curious what flute counts you all run on small aluminum parts.
