Spent 6 hours chasing a taper error on a Haas VF2 that turned out to be one loose leveling bolt
Last Tuesday I was cutting a batch of 4140 steel brackets and every part was coming out with .003 taper on the bores, so I tore down the setup, re-indicated the vise twice, and even swapped the tool holder. Around hour 6 a guy from the day shift leaned on the machine and said the whole thing was rocking, which is when I found one leveling pad on the front left had backed off about half a turn. Has anyone else chased a phantom tolerance issue that ended up being the floor under the machine instead of the program?
