Tried HSS endmills vs carbide on a hard job and it was night and day
Was cutting some 4140 prehard on a job last week and the HSS tool was chattering like crazy after 3 parts. Swapped to a carbide endmill and ran the same part 20 times before I had to change it. has anyone else noticed that big of a difference on harder materials?

Tbh that's wild but it makes sense with how hard 4140 gets.

Ngl I was on the other side of this until I actually tried it. This thread def changed my mind on how deep the quench really gets.
