Wasted $200 on a fancy collet set that I'll never use again

Bought a full set of ER32 collets from that big online tool outlet last year. Thought it would help me hold weird stock better on my Haas mini mill. First job I tried using them on a .375 end mill, it slipped and killed the part. Stuck with standard R8 collets ever since. Anyone else find these specialty collet systems overhyped?

Man, that hurts just reading it. Killed a part on my first try with fancy collets too, except mine was a $50 aluminum vise stop I thought would be the bees knees. Ended up launching it across the shop and my boss still brings it up. Pretty sure I've got a whole drawer full of "specially designed" tooling that's basically just a paperweight collection now. Standard R8s have never let me down either, they just work without the fuss or the price tag. Guess we both learned the hard way that flashy gear doesn't fix bad setups or stock holding.

Is that really the collet's fault though?
