Watched an apprentice sidelock a 5-axis head last Thursday and now I double check every tool offset myself
He was running a Haas UMC-750 and typed G43 H1 without thinking, hit the wrong tool in the carousel, sent the spindle straight into the vise at 100% rapids and snapped a $400 endmill clean in half, so does anyone else do a dry run even on simple jobs after seeing something that dumb?

Did you watch his face go white right when he realized what happened? I had something similar with a Mori a few years back. An operator from second shift swapped tools in the carousel without updating the offsets, and my G43 line sent a 2 inch face mill straight down into a Kurt vise. That bang echoed through the whole shop. Now I run a quick Z clearance move before every single tool change, no exceptions. Learned that lesson the hard way, man.

And @wesley83 that's why I always watch the tool table like a hawk after night shift, ngl those silent crashes are the scariest.
