Pro tip: I wrote my first 10 programs in the cloud, and I wish I had kept putting them on my own machine
For my first two months of learning to code I did everything in an online editor, and it felt great, nothing to install, nothing to break. Then last Tuesday my internet went out for 3 hours and I couldn't run a single line of the practice file I was in the middle of. It hit me that I had been treating the browser like it was the language itself. I finally set up Python on my laptop and the very first thing that happened was a PATH error, which was annoying and also exactly the kind of thing I should learn. If you are starting out, do you learn on your own computer or just stick to the online ones?
Learned this the hard way too. I spent my first month in an online editor because my laptop was old and I was scared of breaking something. Then I tried to follow a tutorial that used a library the site didn't have, and I just sat there stuck with no clue how to fix it. Setting up stuff on my own machine was a mess at first, but every error taught me something the browser was hiding from me.
