Warning: That free hosting tutorial from 2021 wrecked my first project

I followed a guy named Chris's YouTube tutorial on free hosting for beginners, and he said to use a specific old server setup. It worked fine for 2 weeks until the hosting company shut down the free tier, taking my whole site with it. Anyone else get burned by following outdated beginner advice without checking the date first?

Used to think old tutorials were fine but this proved me dead wrong.

yeah i feel you perry.lee, i wasted a whole weekend on a tutorial that was from 2018 and half the buttons didn't even exist anymore. what ended up working for me was just searching for a specific problem rather than a full walkthrough. like instead of "how to build a bookshelf" i looked up "fixing wobbly shelf brackets" and got way more useful results. also i started checking the date on videos first thing now, anything older than a year gets a side eye from me. some of that older stuff is still solid for basic concepts though, you just gotta be picky about what part of the project you're actually stuck on.
