A barista in Portland refused to grind my beans, and I get it now

Walked into a shop near Powell's with a bag of dark roast from a farm in Guatemala, and the barista told me their grinder was set for their own espresso blend, so I'd have to buy a cup instead, and honestly after tasting both side by side I think she saved me from ruining a $24 bag, but has anyone else hit this wall when traveling with specialty beans?
