A barista in Portland told me to try a 'salty' coffee

I was at a small shop there last month and the person making my drink said adding a tiny pinch of salt to the grounds before brewing cuts bitterness. I tried it with my home setup and it actually works, though it's a very subtle change. Has anyone else experimented with this little trick?

What kind of salt did you use? I've heard fine sea salt works best, but I'm curious if regular table salt would leave a weird aftertaste.

I tried table salt once and it totally left a metallic taste. Switched to fine sea salt like Diamond Crystal and it dissolved way better, no weird aftertaste. The bigger flakes in some sea salts don't blend in as well for me though.

My mom's cooking changed when she switched salts, just like zara166 said.
