A barista told me my pour over was 'aggressive' last week...

She said I was swirling the kettle too fast and it was channeling through the grounds. I slowed way down and kept the stream steady, and the flavor difference was massive. Anybody else gotten feedback that totally changed your brewing technique?

James Hoffmann's video on pour-over technique really opened my eyes to the same thing.

My buddy Dave got absolutely roasted by a barista in Portland last year. He was doing this crazy fast pour with a gooseneck kettle and splashing water everywhere, totally missing the point of a steady stream. The barista said his method was like trying to water a garden with a firehose. He slowed way down after that, and now he's actually decent at it. @barbarab56 mentioned the James Hoffmann video which is basically the gold standard for this stuff. The channeling issue is so real once you see it happen in slow motion, you can't unsee it.
