Best coffee week I had was last spring in Portland

I was up there for a paint job on a old Victorian, and every morning I hit a different shop before work. One place called Proud Mary pulled a shot of their Ethiopian natural that tasted like straight blueberry jam. Another spot had a barista who walked me through a pour-over where he adjusted the grind three times to get it right. Has anyone else had a week where every cup just hit different?

Proud Mary was solid when I went, but I gotta push back on the whole Portland coffee week idea. I hit seven shops in three days and only two of them actually made me stop and appreciate the cup. The rest were fine, just fine. Third Wave Coffee down on Division served me a washed Kenyan that tasted flat as a pancake, no matter how many times the barista talked about altitude and fermentation. I think the whole "every cup hits different" thing is a nice story people tell themselves after a good trip. A perfect coffee week is more like one or two amazing cups and a bunch of average ones you forget.

That washed Kenyan flat as a pancake thing hits hard, I had one last week that tasted like dirty dishwater.
