I was looking up old coffee ads and found out they used to call instant coffee 'coffee crystals'
I found a magazine from 1975 at a garage sale in Portland. There was a full page ad for a brand that said 'just add hot water to your coffee crystals'. It made me think about how we talk about coffee now, with all the fancy terms. Has anyone else seen old ads that make you laugh?

My buddy collects old magazines and found one with an ad for "beef tea." It was basically a bouillon cube they tried to sell as a drink. Marketing back then really tried to make weird stuff sound fancy.

That line about "marketing back then" is spot on, @felix155. They really did try to sell anything. Beef tea sounds like the worst drink idea ever. It's just hot salty water from a cube. Calling it fancy doesn't hide that. It's the same old trick of using a nice name for a bad product. We still see it now, just with different stuff.
