My brother told me my coffee setup was 'too quiet'
He was over last weekend and watched me make a pour-over. He said, 'You just stand there, waiting. Where's the sound?' I realized I've been so focused on the taste that I forgot the whole ritual. I used to love the noise of my old grinder and the kettle whistle. Has anyone else gone back to a louder piece of gear just for the feeling?

My old grinder sounded like a rock crusher, but I missed the noise. I dug it out of the closet and now the morning feels more complete. That loud, messy process makes the quiet waiting part of the pour-over actually mean something. The whole routine just feels more real when it isn't silent.

My old drip machine had this low hum I got used to. I switched to a quiet one and the whole kitchen felt off, so I went back. The noise just makes the coffee part feel right.
