My buddy Dave changed my mind about cold brew last weekend
Tbh I always thought cold brew was just weak iced coffee with a fancy name. But Dave made me try his batch that he had steeping for 18 hours with a coarse grind from that Ethiopian bean he gets. The smoothness and the chocolate notes were totally different from what I expected. Now I'm setting up my own mason jar system tonight. Anyone else had a similar turnaround on a brewing method you wrote off?

You're really going to spend 18 hours waiting on coffee? I get that it tastes smoother but that's a whole day of planning just for a cup of caffeine. Dave must have a lot of free time on his hands.

Oh wow, @christopher_flores46 I gotta push back on that! The 18 hour steep is totally passive, you just set it up before bed and strain it in the morning. It's not like you're standing there watching it for a whole day. Plus you get a whole batch out of it, not just one cup. I made a mason jar batch yesterday with some medium roast Guatemala beans and honestly it lasted me three days of smooth concentrate that I could just splash with milk whenever I wanted. The upfront time saves you so much daily effort.
