My grinder broke 3 weeks ago and I've been using a blender, please help
So my Baratza Encore finally kicked it after 4 years of daily use. The burr just stopped spinning last month, and I don't have $150 to replace it right now. I tried using my kitchen blender on some beans for a couple days, and the coffee came out tasting like muddy water with chunks floating in it. Is there any cheap hand grinder under $40 that won't make me hate my life every morning? I usually do pour over if that matters.
Did the Encore really die or is it just the burr ring that cracked? That part is like twelve bucks and takes two minutes to swap out. I ask because mine did the exact same thing, burr stopped spinning, and I almost bought a new grinder before someone told me to check that plastic ring. Also what's your actual budget ceiling here, because $40 hand grinders are a minefield and half of them are the same generic thing with a different sticker. And does the pour over rig you have need a specific grind size, like are you doing a fine V60 or something coarser? Answer those and I can tell you if you're better off waiting two weeks and saving up instead.
