Overheard a guy at my local shop ranting about pour-over ratios
I was grabbing beans at Blue Bottle in Brooklyn last Tuesday and this dude was going off about how 1:16 is a myth and everyone should use 1:14. He pulled out a scale and showed me his brew, and honestly it was way less bitter than mine. Has anyone else tested different ratios and found a sweet spot that works better than the standard advice?

lol the 1:14 guy sounds like the kinda person who measures out their life in grams. I tried it once and ended up with coffee so strong it basically yelled at me for being bad at math.

Oh gosh, that's exactly my first experience too! I thought I was being so precise with my grams and ratios, and it came out tasting like someone bottled espresso and yelled at it. I ended up with coffee that left a permanent stain on my favorite mug. Now I just scoop and pour like a normal person and it tastes fine. Some things just don't need a chemistry lab in the kitchen, you know?
