PSA: Stop rinsing your Chemex filter with cold water
I watched a guy at a cupping in Portland do this last Saturday and the paper tore before the brew even started. Hot water opens the pores and seals the seam, cold just makes it soggy and weak, so you get mud in your cup. Anyone else see baristas doing this at shops lately?

Hot water opens the pores and seals the seam" is exactly it. I had a guy at my local shop do the cold rinse thing and my first pour came out gritty as hell. Cold never works, it's like people are just copying what they saw on TikTok without thinking it through.
