Remember when a simple drip machine was all you needed...
I was digging through my mom's old kitchen stuff last weekend and found her Mr. Coffee from the 80s. That thing probably made a thousand pots of Folgers without issue. Now I've got a scale, a gooseneck kettle, three different brewers, and I still mess up my morning cup half the time. Anyone else feel like we overcomplicated things?

The real difference nobody talks about is the beans themselves. Back then, people were brewing stale grocery store coffee and not expecting much. Now we spend 18 dollars on a bag of single origin beans that go stale in two weeks and wonder why we can't get it right. Your mom's Mr. Coffee probably made a consistent cup because Folgers was designed to taste the same no matter what you did to it. With modern specialty coffee, you're fighting against the natural variation of the product every single day. Maybe the old way wasn't better, it just had lower standards.

Eighteen dollars for a bag of beans that goes bad in two weeks... wait, seriously?
