Shoutout to that family run coffee farm in Guatemala
I stopped there on a trip last fall. They let us help sort the beans by hand. The cup they brewed for us had this crazy lemon hint. Now my morning pot at home just tastes flat. I keep thinking about buying green beans to roast myself. Is that a dumb idea for a rookie? Where should I look for good green coffee online?

After that Guatemalan coffee with the lemon hint, my regular brew tastes like someone filtered it through a sock... Buying green beans online is a great idea if you want your apartment to smell like a tire fire for a week. You'll spend hours reading about roast profiles and still end up with something that tastes like burnt popcorn. Just don't blame me when your first batch comes out looking like charcoal briquettes.

Sweet Maria's website has good green coffee for beginners. Home roasting is totally worth it for that fresh flavor. I started with a popcorn popper and now I roast every week. The key is to watch a few videos and not give up after the first try. What equipment are you looking at?

My first roast with a popcorn popper turned all the beans into uneven little rocks, which I proudly called artisan charcoal. Watching videos helped, like Dakota mentioned, and I learned to listen for the cracks instead of just staring. Now I use a simple skillet method, so the smell is more toasted nuts than tire fire. Sure, you can end up with burnt batches, but that's part of the fun. Each mistake teaches you something, and the fresh flavor is worth the effort.
