The barista who timed my pour over and critiqued my technique

Was at a little cafe in Portland last week, just minding my business making a pour over at one of those self-serve stations. This guy behind me pulls out his phone, starts a timer, and says "you're pouring too fast, you're gonna get a hollow cup." I didn't even know him. He then showed me his preferred method with his own beans he had in his bag. Kinda rude but honestly my next cup tasted better. Anyone else had a stranger coach them at a coffee shop?

That sounds about right for Portland. tara700 says it's not open heart surgery, and she's not wrong, but I feel like this is part of a bigger pattern where strangers just decide they need to fix you. Whether it's your coffee pour or the way you load a dishwasher at a friend's house, everyone's got an opinion they're dying to share. It's like people think life is one big training video and we're all the main character they need to coach. Sometimes it's annoying, but other times you get a better cup of coffee out of it, so I guess it's a mixed bag.

Man it's just coffee, not open heart surgery.
