The week my espresso machine decided to die on me

Last Tuesday morning, my old Gaggia just gave up mid-pull. Made this awful grinding noise and then nothing but steam came out. I spent the whole week trying to fix it myself, watching YouTube videos and ordering parts. By Friday I had coffee grounds all over the kitchen and still no working machine. Has anyone here ever actually fixed one of these at home or am I just wasting my time?

Toss it before you lose your mind over a 50 dollar fix. I killed a whole Sunday on my old Silvia once, replaced the pump, the thermoblock, every gasket I could find, and it still leaked like a sieve. The real issue was the control board was fried and parts alone cost more than a used replacement on Craigslist. You're better off selling that corpse for scrap on eBay and grabbing a refurbished one from Whole Latte Love for under 300 bucks.
