Am I the only one who was surprised when our student group's speaker poll got over 800 responses in 48 hours, mostly from people who just wanted to see the event canceled?

It made me wonder if the loudest voices in these debates are actually a small group, and if we're letting a vocal minority dictate what ideas a whole campus gets to hear.

Yeah but @willow_ellis, that many votes means a LOT of people DO care, they just care about stopping it. That's not just online drama.

True about the poll being the real event lol. I voted in three of those things today just because the buttons were there. Couldn't even tell you what half of them were about. We're all just clicking stuff to feel part of the show, and the numbers make it look way more serious than it is. It's like giving a kid a remote and being shocked they keep changing the channel.

Ever think the poll itself is the event now? People love voting in online drama more than they care about the actual speaker.
