Disinvited speaker at my daughter's school got me thinking

My daughter goes to a small college in Ohio. She told me last month they uninvited a conservative commentator because of some old tweets. I looked it up, nothing illegal just stuff people didn't agree with. The school said it was about "campus safety" but there were no threats. I told my daughter I thought that was weak. She got mad and said I didn't get how words hurt people. We went back and forth for 20 minutes on the phone. Ended up agreeing to disagree but it stuck with me. Has anyone else had a family argument over this kind of thing?

My cousin and I had almost the exact same fight last spring over his college disinviting a military vet who gave a talk about patriotism. I ended up just saying I respected his opinion even though I didn't agree, and we dropped it. It's hard when family sees things so differently, but at least you two are still talking honestly.

@the_joel you mentioned "I respected his opinion even though I didn't agree" - do you actually believe that's possible when it comes to your own family though?
