I used to think shouting down a speaker at my school was just fighting the good fight, but seeing a kid get shoved at a protest last week made me stop and actually listen to the other side for once.
Has anyone else had a moment like that, where the physical reality of a protest changed your view on the whole free speech debate?

Yeah, seeing someone get shoved makes it all feel different.

Totally get what you mean about it feeling different when you actually see the shove. I read this article a while back about how watching violence, even just a push, changes how our brains process the whole event. It stops being just an idea and becomes something real and physical. That shift makes the whole argument way more serious instantly.

Used to think it was all just talk until I saw it happen... you're right, @the_julia, seeing it makes it real.
