My campus invited a climate denier and the Q&A turned into a total circus

Two months ago my school brought in this guy who says global warming is a hoax. I went expecting to hear him out but it took 45 minutes of him dodging basic questions before a professor finally asked him about the 97% consensus. He just said "that's fake science" and moved on. A bunch of students walked out after that. Is this really what free speech looks like when nobody can actually debate the facts?

Oh wow, that sounds like a total mess. I feel for you sitting through that whole thing hoping for an actual discussion and just getting dodged like that. It's frustrating when someone hides behind "free speech" but won't actually engage with the facts or admit when they're wrong. The walkout makes total sense to me - at some point you have to wonder what the point is if the speaker isn't even trying to debate in good faith. That's not really free speech, that's just a platform for someone to say whatever they want without being challenged.

Ha, bet the dean thought they were being "balanced." Funny how they never bring in flat earthers to balance out the geography department though, right?
