My kid asked why a speaker got 'canceled' at her school and it took me back

She was doing homework about a guest who got uninvited from a state college near us. I explained it was because some students protested his old tweets. It made me think of my own college days, where the big fights were about letting a speaker on campus at all, not digging up their past online. Now the debate feels like it happens before they even get to the podium. Has your campus seen a speaker get pulled over something they said years ago?

Does this mean we're judging people forever by their past words? People grow and change over a decade, and holding a single old post against someone ignores that. It feels like we're losing the chance for real dialogue.

Isn't 2014 almost ten years ago though? Seems like @jana_hernandez, that poet could have changed a lot since then like most of us do.
