My old professor in 2011 said he'd rather get shouted down than see a speaker banned, and that stuck with me
We were in his office at Ohio State after a campus group tried to stop a controversial speaker from coming, and he told me "the answer to bad speech is more speech, not a locked door." Now every time I see a speaker get cancelled or a protest shut one down, I think about that 20 minute talk. Has anyone else had a mentor change how they see this stuff?
