My university's student government just blocked a debate on climate policy because one speaker wrote a book they didn't like.

After they spent $5,000 of our activity fees to book the venue, they pulled the plug two days before the event, saying his past work was 'too divisive' for a campus in Ohio.

You said they blocked it because of a book he wrote, but the post says it was his past work in general. That's a key difference (a single book versus a whole career of writing). It means they didn't just dislike one idea, they objected to his whole public stance.

Wait, they spent five grand of student money and then canceled? That's insane. @victorb51 makes a good point about it being his whole career they're against, not just one book. What a waste of fees we all had to pay.

Yeah but @victorb51 is right, it's not like they just took issue with one book. Five grand on a speaker they clearly hated from the start is just dumb.
