Saw a hiring manager laugh at a resume with a controversial speaker club on it
I was helping a friend apply for jobs at a marketing firm in Austin last month. He listed his position as treasurer for a student group that invited Ben Shapiro to campus in 2023. The manager literally chuckled and set that resume aside. It made me wonder how much these speaker controversies actually follow people after graduation. Has anyone else seen a club membership on a resume hurt someone's chances?

Heard a similar story from my cousin who got passed over for a graphic design job because he was VP of a campus Republicans group back in 2018. Hiring people really do judge based on those extracurriculars, especially with anything political.

2018 though, that's wild. Guess hiring managers just have to check everyone's Myspace before the interview now lmao.
