Stood in line at a UC Berkeley protest and counted 40 cops for 200 students
Went to see a speaker at UC Berkeley last month, some guy who got disinvited from another campus, and the whole time I kept staring at the barricades instead of listening. They had maybe 40 officers for a crowd of 200 students, and the line to get in snaked past a table where two kids were handing out flyers nobody took. It hit me that the fight over free speech at colleges is mostly about the metal fences and the walk-through detectors, not the actual words. Did anyone else go to a talk where the security setup was the loudest message in the room?
