The 20 minute talk that got my campus group banned from the auditorium
Last February we booked a retired diplomat to speak about press freedom, but the guy spent his whole 20 minutes telling a story about his pet parrot that could mimic his sneeze. The faculty advisor pulled the plug mid-sentence and now our group needs a police escort just to rent a classroom. The worst part is the audio guy gave us a bill for $340 even though the mic was on the whole time. Has anyone else had a speaker go totally off-script and end up costing the club way more than the fee?

Take that parrot story to the stand-up circuit instead of the podium, seems like your diplomat missed his true calling. At least the $340 got you a lesson in how a bird can derail an entire campus group's reputation. Honestly, that sneeze-mimicking parrot is probably more qualified to speak on press freedom than half the politicians I've heard.
