The dean who ignored the ACLU letter on the invited speaker in Ann Arbor

Our student gov invited a climate denial guy for a panel, and the dean blocked it citing 'campus climate'. A friend said to fight it through the student newspaper. We ran an op-ed, got 200 signatures, but the admin still stuck with the cancel. Has anyone else seen a dean overrule a legit invite without a real safety reason?

Wow, this whole thing feels like a microcosm of how decisions get made everywhere these days. I see it all the time where people in charge look for any reason to avoid a fuss, even if the reason doesn't hold up. It's like once a complaint gets loud enough, the actual facts of the situation stop mattering, and the path of least resistance wins. You did the right thing by pushing back and getting signatures, but honestly, sometimes the admin just wants the problem to go away more than they want to defend the principle. Your mileage may vary, but I'd bet this dean would do the same thing again even if a real security threat was never proven.
