The Q&A where a protester asked the speaker about his shoes

Last semester at UT Austin, this econ speaker got heckled nonstop, but the moment that stuck was a guy who stood up and asked, "Why are you wearing $400 dress shoes if you're so worried about student debt?" The speaker just looked down, laughed, and said, "These are $60 from a flea market in Lubbock, but nice try." The whole room cracked up and the heckler sat down quiet. That "flea market in Lubbock" line was perfect. I had almost the same thing happen at a town hall about housing costs a few years back. Some guy in a suit was talking about rent control, and a woman yelled at him about his expensive watch. He just held up his wrist and said it was a $20 Casio he'd worn for a decade. The guy who yelled looked so dumb, like he didn't bother to check anything before making a scene. People love to judge based on one look, and it almost always blows up in their face.
