Am I the only one who got burned by "just read the trade paperbacks first"?
Back in March a guy at my local shop in Sacramento pushed me to start every series with the collected trades instead of single issues. He swore it was cheaper and you never miss a chapter. I followed that for about 6 months, and I ended up with 4 volumes of a run where the art got swapped halfway and the story jumped around because the trades left out a one-shot tie-in. Now I'm hunting back issues online just to fill the gaps I didn't know existed. Is there a better way to figure out which runs actually read fine in trades before I drop $60 on a volume?
