Back issue bins flipped my opinion on on-sale dates

I used to think new comic day was all that mattered, but digging through dollar bins at the Jersey City store showed me old runs have way more variety. Found a 1987 Spectre issue that had better art than anything I grabbed last month. Anyone else shift to back issues after getting burned by a bland new series?
