Bagged my comics wrong for 12 years, mylar was the wakeup call

I found a 1991 X-Men #1 in my longbox that had turned yellow around the edges, even though I kept it out of sunlight in a closet. Turns out those cheap poly bags I bought in bulk off eBay let in acids slowly, and I never knew until I compared it to a raw copy my buddy Mike had stored in a mylar sleeve. How do you store your keys and graded books, and has anyone else had a silent discoloration surprise after years of thinking you were doing it right?

Three years ago I pulled a Fantastic Four #48 from a poly bag and the pages had gone brown at the edges, same as you. I switched everything over to mylar after that, even the dollar bin stuff, because the price difference is nothing compared to losing a key book. Now I double check every bag I buy and honestly I feel like I wasted a decade thinking plastic was plastic.
