Finally got my friend to read her first comic, and she loved it

Three years ago, my friend Sarah in Tucson said she 'just didn't get' comics. Last month, she asked me for a recommendation after seeing a movie trailer. I gave her the first trade of Ms. Marvel. Last week, she texted me a picture of her holding volumes 2 and 3 from the bookstore. Said she couldn't put it down. Feels good to finally share this thing I love with someone who was totally closed off to it. What was the first book you gave to a friend that actually got them hooked?

and that's the thing, once you get them past that mental block of "comics are for kids" or whatever, it's like a switch flips... Ms. Marvel is a great choice because it's so grounded in real life stuff even with the superpowers. I've found the trick is picking something that matches their taste in movies or TV shows first, you know, not just throwing Watchmen at them right away. A friend of mine was into police procedurals so I handed her Gotham Central and she tore through the whole series in a week. It's such a good feeling when you finally find that one story that clicks for them.
