Guy at a con tried to correct me on my own comic collection
I was at a small comic convention in Cleveland last spring, just flipping through a long box at a dealer's table. This older dude next to me sees I'm holding a beat up copy of New Mutants #98 and goes, "You know that's not worth much without the polybag, right?" I laughed and told him I bought it for 50 cents at a garage sale in 2019 because I actually like the art, not for flipping. He then starts lecturing me about how real collectors only care about grades and key issues, like I wasn't even holding a book with a Deadpool first appearance. I just stared at him for a second, put the comic back, and walked over to the indie creator alley. Has anyone else had a random stranger try to gatekeep you on stuff you already own and read?
Had a guy do the same thing to me over a beat up X-Men 266 I found in a dollar bin. Told me I was "wasting" it by not sending it in for grading. I read that thing on my lunch break for a week straight, that's the whole point. Some people collect for bragging rights and some of us just like comics.
