Hit issue #500 in my collection last weekend and it hit different than I expected

I was just sorting through some long boxes in my garage and realized I crossed 500 issues total. Didn't think a number would matter that much but it kind of does. Started collecting as a kid in the early 90s buying random X-Men and Spider-Man off the spinner rack at 7-Eleven. Now I'm sitting here with stacks from Image, DC, and indie publishers too. Anyone else have a random milestone that made them pause and think about how long they've been doing this?

Hit issue #500" - I feel that, but you're probably closer to 600 or 700 if you bought a lot of early 90s stuff. Those Image titles from back then had a ton of variant covers and limited series that added up fast without you really noticing. I remember thinking I had maybe 300 issues until I actually counted them one afternoon and realized I was way off.

Yeah the "I thought I had 500" is a classic comic collector thing. Once you actually tally up all those random one-shots and mini-series from the 90s, it's always way more than you think. I remember doing that with my own boxes and realized I had hit around 650 issues, and half of them were just stuff I'd picked up at flea markets for a buck.
