My shift on comic fan purity tests

They ruin the fun for everyone involved.

Back when DC did the Rebirth launch, I saw fans arguing over who was a "real" fan based on how many pre-Crisis books they owned. It was so pointless and turned the whole event into a competition. I had a friend who stopped collecting altogether after being mocked for starting with the New 52. That kind of attitude just pushes people away from comics. We should be happy more folks are getting into the stories, not judging their entry point.

Ugh, nothing kills the mood faster than some guy with a longbox turning comics into a math test. It's like saying you can't enjoy Star Wars unless you saw the prequels in theaters, which, no thanks. The whole point is the story, not some made-up scorecard for who suffered through more bad crossovers.

Can't we all just enjoy comics, @phoenixscott?
