Pro tip: I started telling my friends exactly which comic to read first and it actually got them into it
For years, I'd just tell people 'you should read Spider-Man' or 'Batman is great', and they'd get overwhelmed and give up. Last month, my buddy Mike said he wanted to try comics but didn't know where to start. Instead of naming a character, I told him to get 'Ultimate Spider-Man #1' from 2000, the one by Brian Bendis. I said it's a clean start, it's modern, and you can just read that first trade paperback. He texted me two days later saying he finished it and asked what volume 2 was called. It clicked for me that the problem wasn't the comics, it was my advice being too vague. Giving one specific, easy entry point worked way better than listing fifty great stories. Now I keep a short list of three perfect starter books for different tastes. What's your go-to 'first comic' recommendation for a total newbie?

Wait, you got someone to read a whole trade in two days? That's wild.

Yeah, a good editor can absolutely fly through pages.
