PSA: Comic convention trash has me thinking about our fan footprint

I just got back from a big con and the amount of throwaway plastic from figure boxes and drink cups was really noticeable. It made me wonder how we can keep enjoying these events while being kinder to the planet. Have any of you seen cons that use less packaging or have good recycling set up? I'd like to hear what other fans are doing to cut down on waste.

Ugh, the paper waste is just as bad. Every table hands out glossy flyers and thick catalogs that just get dumped by the exit. One con I went to actually put all that stuff online with a simple QR code at the entrance instead. It cut down on so much trash. More places should push digital guides and promo codes.

My bag after last year's con was just a sad stack of glossy flyers I felt too guilty to toss. I'd probably still grab a QR code printout if they handed those out too, honestly.

That 'sad stack of glossy flyers' line hits hard, @riverwells. I had the same guilt trip with a bag full of promo booklets that just gathered dust in my closet. The glossy paper isn't even easy to recycle, so it feels extra wasteful. Cons really need to go digital, but I get why we still grab the physical stuff out of habit.
