PSA: I was that guy who argued about comic accuracy at every screening

My friend finally snapped at a Dune 2 showing and said, 'Dude, the book fans are here to have fun, not get a lecture.' It hit me that gatekeeping ruins the vibe for everyone. How do you keep the fan passion positive without being 'that' person?

Oh man, I used to be that guy about book-to-movie stuff. What finally clicked for me was asking one simple question before I spoke up: "Is this going to make the experience better for the person next to me?" The answer is almost always no. Now I save all my nitpicks for a group chat with my equally nerdy friends after the movie. Lets everyone just enjoy the thing.

Save the deep dives for later" is so true. I ruined a Dune watch by doing that and my friend just shut me down with "dude, we're just trying to watch the movie." Never again.

My cousin did this during the first Lord of the Rings movie, pointing out every change from the book. The whole row was visibly annoyed. It taught me that the shared fun of watching something is way more important than being right. Passion is great, but the theater is for the shared experience, not a class. Save the deep dives for later with people who want to hear them. Why spoil a good time just to show you know the source material?
