Ten years ago I would've laughed at anyone who said digital comics were better than floppies.

I was that guy with longboxes stacked to the ceiling, swore by the smell of newsprint and the feel of a new issue in my hands. Then my basement flooded in 2022, ruined about 300 comics I'd been collecting since the 90s, and I realized all that paper is just fragile baggage. How did you finally get over the physical vs digital debate?

Your longboxes sound like mine before I went fully digital in 2019. Were you able to recover any of those ruined issues, or did the flood push you over the edge completely? I had a similar moment when I moved across the country and realized I couldn't take 40 short boxes with me, so I get the frustration.

Oh man, Margaret, did you ever manage to save any of the ones that got water damage? I feel your pain on the move too - 40 short boxes is no joke, my back hurts just thinking about it. I lost my entire run of The Spirit (I mean the Cooke series, not the old stuff) and maybe half my X-Factor from the 80s. The flood was definitely the push I needed to go digital, even if it hurts to think about those floppy pages turning to mush in my hands.
