That kid at the comic shop who told me Batman #497 was a bad investment

Those kids at the comic shop are usually just repeating stuff they heard on YouTube anyway. I grabbed a copy of Batman #497 a few years back just because I liked the cover, and it's actually gone up a bit since then. Hobbies should be about what makes you happy, not trying to guess what some random influencer will hype up next.

Wait, someone actually told you to skip Batman #497? @ericschmidt did they really say that?

Happens all the time though doesn't it. People get so caught up in what something is worth later they forget what it's worth right now. The whole "investment" angle in hobbies has gotten way out of hand, it's like every kid with a graded comic thinks they're on Wall Street. You buy a book because you like the cover or the story, not because some random 14 year old says it'll pay for your retirement. That kid probably told the same thing to a guy buying a first print of a series that became a huge movie a few years down the line.
