That older collector's advice about bagging twice was wrong

A guy at my local shop in Austin told me to double-bag my Silver Age books to keep them flat, so I did that to my 1968 Spider-Man for about a year. When I finally took it out for grading, the inner bag had left a crease line right down the spine that wasn't there before. Has anyone else gotten storage tips from longtime fans that ended up hurting more than helping?
